INSOMNIA
“What does the night sound like?” That is the question Mattias Spee tries to answer with Insomnia, a set of 9 original compositions, each depiciting a different stage in the sleepless night. In 2023, Spee toured all the major concert venues in The Netherlands with this program.
Dutch Classical Talent, who organised the Insomnia tour, described Spee as follows “An idiosyncratic and versatile musician, who also improvises and composes. In his playing, his air and his choice of repertoire, you can see his activist and rebellious nature. He doesn’t let anyone tell him what to do and completely sets his own course.”
Final concert of the Insomnia tour at TivoliVredenburg
The last stop of this tour was in TivoliVredenburg. A live-recording of this recital was made by De ConcertZender. This live-recording is released as an album in November 2026 by record label Challenge Records. On January 17th of 2027, there will be a celebratory presentation concert at the Uilenburgersjoel in Amsterdam, with music from the album as well as guest appearances by cellist Hadewych van Gent and legendary soprano Claron McFadden.
